Four modules of the Buddhist Studies Programme (BSP) modules are scheduled in 2008, at Chenrezig Institute in south-east Queensland, Australia.

The BSP is an unique, full-time course of Buddhist study for committed students, both monastics and laypeople. There are four teachings each week from Geshe Tashi Tsering, plus tutorials led by Geshe Lozang Jamyang and discussion groups. Classes are held Tuesday to Friday from approximately 8.30 am to 4.00 pm. In addition, students are expected to spend additional time preparing for classes and revising. There is a short written exam on each week's material and graded certificates are awarded to those who complete the courses satisfactorily.

None of the teachings this year are restricted, however previous study will help students keep up with the advanced level of the teachings. The BSP co-ordinator can recommend preparatory teachings or study.

1. The Heart of Wisdom Sutra
5 – 15 February 2008
For those of you who have been dying to attend one of our wonderful BSP modules, but just can't get two months off, here is your opportunity! We've all heard: "Form is empty, emptiness is form; form is not other than emptiness, emptiness is not other than form ...". Geshe Tashi Tsering will reveal the meaning of these profound words, teaching the essence of the middle way teachings, over just two weeks!
COST: $120 (members 10 per cent discount; sangha free of charge)

2. Buddhist Logic — Signs and Reasons
1 April – 23 May 2008
The study of logic and debate within the Tibetan tradition. Through careful study of the various types of reasonings we actually use every day, we shall examine whether our thinking, especially with regard to important aspects of the teachings, leads us to clear understanding or more confusion. A challenging and exciting subject — an important basis for all future analytical thinking, study and meditation.
COST: $480 for the eight week course (members 10 per cent discount; sangha free of charge)

Dates are not yet definite for further modules in the second part of 2008, but the following subjects are expected to be taught during that time:

3. Fourth chapter of the Ornament of Clear Realisation
This profound and very inspiring text, composed by Maitreya and brought into this world by Arya Asanga, teaches the various levels and realisations attained by a bodhisattva on the path to enlightenment. It will be taught over eight weeks of intensive study with teachings with Geshe Tashi Tsering and tutorials with Geshe Lobsang Jamyang.
COST: $480 for the eight week course (members 10 per cent discount; sangha free of charge)

4. Mahayana Mind Training — The Wheel of Sharp Weapons

"Bodhisattvas are likened to peacocks:
They live on delusions — those poisonous plants.
Transforming them into the essence of practice,
They thrive in the jungle of everyday life."

Geshe-la will teach the means to develop and enhance the Mahayana attitude — the aspiration to become a buddha for the sake of all beings — and in particular, how to transform adverse conditions to that end.

How to register
Registration is essential for all BSP modules (for both sangha and lay students) whether in house or through the homestudy programme, and registration forms will be available for each module on the centre's website, through the coordinator and through reception.

Attending the teachings
Chenrezig Institute is about an hour's drive north of Brisbane and 45 minutes from Maroochydore. Self-contained and shared accommodation is available at the centre for BSP students who wish to live onsite. Meals are also available at the centre's cafe. BSP costs do not include accommodation or food but reduced rates are available for full-time students: contact Chenrezig Institute reception for details and to make bookings, on 07 5453 2108 or by email.

Studying from home
For those unable to attend the teachings on a full-time basis, homestudy packages are available. The homestudy programme is made possible by a team of hard-working volunteers, who ensure high quality audio recordings and edited transcripts of each teaching are available within days of being given. Homestudy packages are available at a modest cost, which covers the cost of materials and helps support the programme.
